Now in its 33rd year, the Hyères Festival of Fashion & Photography represents the world’s oldest, most prestigious awards for emerging creative talent. Held at the Villa Noailles in the South of France from April 26–30, star guests included actress Tilda Swinton and Chanel President of Global Fashion Bruno Pavlovsky. This year’s Swarovski Fashion Accessories prize went to Kate Fichard, Flora Fixy and Julia Dessirier.
Among the young fashion talent seen on the catwalk was Germany’s Regina Weber. Her outfits featured beautiful champagne evening gloves bejeweled with Swarovski Hotfix Round and Xilion crystals, plus a jacket shimmering with crystal embellishments.
Linda Kokkonen’s scarlet woman blazed down the runway in lace and fringing, Crystal Red Magma crystals fanning the flames to make her Victoriana-meets-biker outfit shine even brighter.
Finally, Jef Montes from the Netherlands sent out a metallic vision in layered silver fabric and Jet crystals to huge applause.
The 2018 grant partner was Chanel, with Chloé, LVMH and Swarovski (since 2009), among others, as main partners. In 2017, Swarovski inaugurated the Swarovski Fashion Accessories prize, taking the number of main Hyères prize categories to three, the others being Fashion and Photography. Each category has ten finalists selected by jury.
Innovative winning trio Kate Fichard, Flora Fixy and Julia Dessirier took the €15,000 Fashion Accessories prize money. Their “Auditative Jewelry” collection—named H[earring]—particularly impressed Fashion Accessories jury president Christelle Kocher of Koché. As well as the opportunity to work on a project with Chanel’s Maisons d’Art, they will be invited to visit the Swarovski’s archives at the crystal company headquarters in Wattens and meet the innovation team.
